We headed over to Cheedale in the Peak District for some sport climbing action on the limestone and to hunt out a climbing project for both of us. I can't wait to start using it for not only stick clipping the first bolt, but also for stick clipping entire routes that are too challenging for me to climb at the moment.

Toe problems. I started climbing in 1986, in the Lake District. Back then I'd only ever heard of EB rock shoes, so I bought a pair but quickly discovered that they were stiff and built more for edging than today's modern bendy shoes. I still had them when I came back a year or two later and it all came undone when my climbing instructor friend and I climbed Eagle Front on High Stile in the Lake District. It was a hot day and my right foot was giving me hell (there's always one foot bigger than the other) and later on when I got home I noticed that my toenail had turned black and subsequently floated off in the bath. Strangely, it didn't hurt much and a new toenail grew pretty quickly. But it taught me to take a bit more time trying rock shoes on in the shop in future.

During your initial healing/recovery period where you had it taped, did you try to avoid ANY activity with the finger? Or were you able to brush teeth normally with a light grip, drive while gripping the steering wheel normally, cut food while gripping a knife etc... or did you really try to avoid using the finger at all during that period? What about afterwards when you started light training and rehab?

FANTASTIC film. Thank you! Love how you narrated the moves and mixed the music down in the background. Inspiring for young people on their way up the grades and nostalgic for us old timers who remember the emotions you express like it was yesterday even though it was thee decades ago....climbing does that in a way that little else can.

Only just seen your excellent video of this climb. The direct version for this lost some footholds in the early 2000's and the move now requires an almighty rockover on the mid height jug using a couple of sloapy crimps. I use this as my lapping route when fit and have climbed it literally 100's of times. Even so, I still find the direct version desperate every time! I've got a very old video of the rockover on my channel. Impressive team send by the way!
